Bird Finder Philippines is proud of the performance of Wild Bird Photographers of the Philippines - WBPP Team Pilipinas, which placed 4th in the first Vietnam Bird Race at Tràm Chim National Park in Dong Thap Province, Vietnam. The team was composed of WBPP President Alain Pascua, Treasurer Djop Tabaranza, Secretary Bert Madrigal, and Trustee Loel Lamela. Pascua and Tabaranza are also from Bird Finder Philippines (BFP), where Lamela and Madrigal are also Philippine Bird Finders.

During the evening program, WBPP and BFP shared insights on Philippine birds as well as BFP standard and special tours aligned with three upcoming prominent birding events scheduled for 2024 in the Philippines: (1) the Subic Bay 1st International Photomarathon (Birds, Wildlife, Landscape) on August 30 to September 1, 2024; (2) the 7th Puerto Princesa Underground River International Bird Photography Race in Palawan on November 17-19, 2024; and (3) the 13th Asian Birdfair in Las Pinas, Metro Manila on November 20-23, 2024. Bird Finder Philippines has been named as one of the main birding tour operators for these major events.

The race took place in Tràm Chim National Park in the Plain of Reeds in Vietnam's Mekong Delta and was of particular importance as it contributed to the conservation of an important wetland. The establishment of the park aimed to restore a degraded ecosystem while protecting rare bird species, in particular the Sarus Crane, which is on the IUCN Red List.

WBPP Team Pilipinas accomplished a remarkable feat by being the only foreign team to excel in this highly competitive birding race. With 68 bird species in front of their lens, they narrowly missed out on third place, which was secured by the Vietnamese team Spot-billed Pelican with 69 points. Second place went to the Vietnamese team Bengal Florican who photographed 70 bird species, while the winners were the Vietnamese team Brown Bobby who spotted 71 bird species.

A total of 77 participants, including 17 international birders, took part in this event, representing 20 teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Norway, Philippines, and Vietnam. WBPP Team Pilipinas is proud to be the Philippine flag-bearers to the race and at the same time being able to promote the wonderful bird life of its home country.
